President of Artists‘ Association(kv) at Haus der Kunst Munich
Turkish artist Berkan Karpat, born in 1965 in Istanbul, has been combining the bio-physical and bio-chemical expansions of components such as theater, installation, poetry and sound among his works and pieces of art that have an inter-disciplinary structure. He has studied philosophy, theater science and psycholinguistics at the University of Munich. Conducting his research on Nazım Hikmet for a while, he prepared an extensive Nazım Hikmet Exhibition in 1998. As well as his works where he used bees in open fields, his projects often serve as examples for the public art. He is the first artist to use Odeonsplatz and English Garden in Munich as a field of art in this sense. His work 'Elektrik Dancing' with Rumi as its main theme met the audience in Odeonsplatz in 1999 and has raised interest since he highlighted the communicative struggles among sound rings utopias, secular and divine utopias, which have been going on for hundreds of years. Expressing Berkan Karpat's works as scientific art is valid because the results constitute a source for both science and art, as well as for the artist himself. Carrying out his laboratory studies for a period of six years in Deutsches Museum, which is the biggest technical museum of the world, Berkan Karpat continues his duty as the head of the museum 'Haus der Kunst' in Munich which was established by artists in 1949.
